OMG! It’s a Veyron OMG Article

A new issue of OMG is out and I have an article in this issue.  It’s a reworked version of some of my previous blog entries about how to take your avatar into cyberspace.  It was fun to write and fun to do put together.  Hopefully it will be helpful to some of the new people in Second Life.  Most of you already know these tricks and tips.

You can get your own copy of OMG in world at the OMG Headquarters http://slurl.com/secondlife/Edgerley/248/7/57

I think Korbin also enjoyed taking the pictures too….

(Oh and the guns work - they are from Aubretec.  They’re called Widow Makers.)

Garbage Collection….

So, I have a few bugs to smash on the new blog.  One of which is a highly annoying internal bug which is not allowing me to edit anything posted.  This seemed to appear at some point, as it worked while I was developing the site.  I’m working on that one.  My work around is to go into the database and hack the raw data, not an optimal solution.  If any WordPress experts out there have any ideas, let me know.  It seems from the support site, I’m not the only one who is having this problem now and then.  I’ve been tinkering turning on and off things trying to quash it.  Email me if you have ideas.

I also discovered that the site was not looking so good under Internet Explorer.  Which is notorious for having a poor CSS implementation.  I use Firefox, and I didn’t bother to check how it looked under IE (do people still use Internet Exploder?).  My bad.   I’ve also made some changes to try and make it look better under IE.  Again, let me know from the feedback form if something looks bad or wrong.  I’ll add it to my list.

Lastly, some of the old postings I imported from Blogger had the wrong URL, so I had to go into the database, and hack that up.  So, that should be right now.  At least I’m knocking a few problems off one by one.

Welcome to the new blog site….

It’s taken some effort and tinkering, but this is the new blog site.  I’ve done an import from the old Blogger site, and almost everything looks to have been imported.  I’m sure there will be a few kinks here and there.  Let me know if you find any problems or something not working.  This is a hosted WordPress blog, so I have a  fair degree of control over it.

It is a bit different for me and will probably take some figuring out.  I hope to add a few more features as things progress.

Thanks again to Vint for the help with the graphics.  :)

Veyronsupercharge.com Blogger Change

This is for the people who link to me, if you could, please change the URL you are using, the blogspot.com URL, to the new domain name. The new URL for the blog is: http://blog.veyronsupercharge.com/. It will help out when I make the change to the new blog that Vint has helped out with.

You Twit…..

Okay, I am behind the curve, I’m giving another time addicting thing a whirl, Twitter. Zoe is doing it, I kinda looked at BlogHUD as more of a SL Twitter, but maybe this is something else to play with.

Anyone else Twittering?

Next Blogger Party Theme

By a majority, Super Hero’s is the winner for this month’s Blogger Party theme with 40% of the votes. JellyBean Madison and her husband HawksRock Gunawan will be hosting. It should be amusing to see what sort of Super Hero’s will be showing up….

Ego Surfing….

An amusing little thing to do is Ego Surfing. With the unusual names that most of us avatars have, this is a pretty easy thing to do. For example, try a search on Google for “October Hush”. You’re pretty much guaranteed to find only hits for the lovely Miss Hush. It’s interesting to see where you’re name is coming up in other places; sometimes places you would be surprised.

Google has a feature called Google Alerts that you can setup to send you an email when it finds a search term or terms you specify. So - say I want to stalk the lovely Miss Hush’s activity on the Internet, I can setup Google to do most of the work for me…. :)

New Domain…

Okay, so it looks like I might be doing this insanity for a while, so I bit the bullet and got a domain…. VeyronSupercharge.com is now operational. The main page is lame right now - I’m working on it, but the blog is being redirected. I have the blog redirecting by Feedburner, so if you subscribed using Feedburner - which as been the default for sometime, you won’t need to change anything….

So, update your links. Maybe I’ll get ambitious and put something more on the hosting site. Vint has been trying to convince me to switch to another blogging software like Wordpress and I’ve been looking at b2evolution.

We’ll have to see….

Second Life Blogger Party August 19th

Mark your calendars for August 19th, 2pm SLT. JellyBean Madison and her husband HawksRock Gunawan will be hosting. I’ll close voting for the theme on August 14th. Vote now if you haven’t already.

Who’s bringing the strippers again?

Blogger Backup

Apparently, it has happened - Blogger, which some, if not most of us use Blogger, has on occasion, dumped blogs. There is a tool out there that can backup and restore your blog. It’s free, appropriately called, Blogger Backup. I would recommend cutting a backup every now and then. Some us have a lot of precious memories in those blogs. It will also preserve comments.

August Blogger Party Theme

Alright, it looks like we have some sort of consensus on what to vote on. At least we don’t need a poll on what to vote on. JellyBean and Hawks sound like they are going to host the next party. Do we have a date yet on when the party is? I’d like to close voting 5-7 days before the party.

For the next party here’s what we have:

Proposed Party Themes

Here’s what I am hearing as far as themes go:

  1. N00b
  2. Tinies
  3. Mystical Creatures
  4. Movie Creatures (Hmm - that’s pretty wide open)
  5. Super Hero’s
  6. Luau
  7. Non-humanoid

I’d like to start the poll this weekend. Any last minute additions or deletions?

Also, anyone volunteering a place or do we have one already selected (I can’t recall off the top of my head)? One suggestion might be the Paradise Lost club. It’s an entire sim and it’s been a bit dead lately. It might give us more room and space to support a lot of avatars. I doubt Paradise Lost would mind the traffic. Vint could show us her pole and Tiessa could show us some other things….

Last Blogger Party

I missed most of it, but I was there for the first bit of the party. Looked like a lot of fun, and I heard we packed the sim and maybe even crashed it. Hmmm…

There were so many people there, it was hard to keep track of everyone. I think next time we need some sort of guest book so we know who was able to make the party, and maybe some sort of photo setup….

Some discussion about the next theme…. Any thoughts about a total non-humanoid theme? Something really out there?

Hate Spammers? Comment Spammers? Strike Back.

Here’s something for all of you bloggers out there to hit back against the comment spammers…. Project Honeypot. You can signup for free, make a few really minor, human invisible changes to your blog and make life harder for the the spammers. In exchange, you get some stats on just how bad things are with your pages.

And we all know that the spammers will be the first ones up against the wall when the revolution comes…. Until then, we need to make their lives as miserable as possible.

Looking for Pirate Parts - Or Veyron Meets a Chic Gearhead

I was searching around for some additional pirate accessories for the upcoming party, I remembered this really cool pirate car from this blog entry in Motorati.

Wow! Very cool…. So, I decided to teleport over to the Pontiac sims and start searching for the car, perchance to see if it is for sale. Not much luck finding anything. Well, while I’m here, I might as well check out the bikini car wash.

Very nice build - complete with some freebies and some other interesting things. Too bad I missed the grand opening.

Then I noticed a large group of avatars, so I decided to investigate.

It turns out it was caLLie cLine giving a tour of Motorati with two of the Motorati girls. The tour was just ending, and I was about to leave when Amanda Shinji popped in to see Callie. She’s the builder of the car I was looking for! :) After swapping some fashion information and she told me where the car is on display - out in front of the Pontiac sim. She is quite amusing - having built several of the cars in on display.

She is also the first girl I think who knew what a Veyron is. In fact, when I asked her if she saw the video of the Veyron doing 250 mph, she said she did. Described it as “like watching a porn video.” LMAO.

Amanda has a blog but not a lot of traffic - and I’ve invited her to the party this weekend and the blogger group. Maybe if we’re lucky she’ll bring the Pirate car to at least display.

Yo ho ho!
