Tiessa and I were, uh, playing around last night.  Yes…  That sort of playing around.  ::giggles::  Anyway, someone popped on my radar and then stayed there.  Close, very close.  He was above us.  Tiessa’s dungeon is below the landing point, which I suspect is intentional on - um - someone’s part….

Anyhow, our little voyeur decided to loiter.  Now, lesson number one.  If you’re going to be a voyeur, the point is to be discrete.  Unless of course, it is assumed to be an invitation to observe.  At least have the decency to use a spycam from a distance…

Lulu’s cuffs and gags have an amusing feature. They keep score. Not just your score, everyone’s score. This is the leaderboard for the current time people have spent with a gag in. Now, if you look closely, the leader has 360 hours with a gag. Now, understand this means no talking. Once you talk, it stops tracking time. Thus making 360 hours pretty impressive. In an ongoing job of trying to break WordPress, I’ve added translation capabilities and OpenID commenting features.  Why?  Uhh….  Does this knob go up to 11?  Oh, and I added a count of spam Defensio is catching to the bottom.  Some of the spam comments are pretty amusing.

In spite of all of the problems with Second Life lately, I just wanted to state, for the record, I really love this place.  I really love the people and the platform - really.  No, I’m serious. 

I think most of the people who do the bitching and complaining, rightfully so, probably feel the same way.  They see what could be done if only a few things were a bit better….

Tiessa and I were shopping around Second Life the other day, and we came across a - uh - device that vacuum sealed an avatar - for kinky purposes. Now, I thought that’s amusing - only in Second Life. Apparently not….

One of the weirder things I have found playing the submissive part is that I kinda find being gagged to be fun.  I know, it sounds weird.  I can usually talk up a storm when I’m in the mood, but I find that playing the submissive and being gagged to be really quite a good match.  It’s like the chocolate sauce on the vanilla ice cream.  mmmmm… 

Part of the attraction of being a sub is the removal of decisions, and thus responsibility.  The gag just means you can’t complain about it anymore.  Combined with the Restrained Life client the Lulu gags are really the best.  You can still do some basic emotes, but you can’t IM and certainly not talk.  It makes for interesting conversations….

On the flip side, playing the dom with a gagged submissive is amusing too.  The sub can’t really complain about what’s going on, and there’s certainly no back talk.

I actually sought out being gagged.  My first experience with it was with Tiessa.  She was gagged for a few hours and I thought it was silly.  I thought it was silly for a long time, until I got the urge to try it.

In case you’re wondering….  The Lulu gags do have a mini game so to speak in them.  You can do a ‘trial’.  In the trial you must keep quite for a set amount of time to move into a new circle.  I’m sorta competitive, so it was like a challenge to meet.  I’m up to the Slave circle with my ball gag.  That’s 14 hours of online time, quiet.  I’ve been thinking of psyching myself to try the top First Slave circle, but as I recall it’s almost 30 hours.

I’d recommend to any submissive to try it out and at least make it to the Novice circle.  That’s two hours of being gagged.

In case you’re wondering, I don’t walk away - except for a few minutes now and then - while I’m doing a trial.  So, that’s 14 hours of real connected time.

I think that if I finished successfully the First Slave circle, the submissive part of me might be satiated for a while.  But maybe that’s a good thing because someone else might want to switch soon…  :)  But there is the leader board of gagged submissive’s at Lulu’s hideout.  Which in itself is a temptation to try to make.  Everyone should stop by there and see the board - you’ll be amazed.  :)  But maybe that’s a good thing because someone else might want to switch soon…  :)  What’s more amazing is that if the gag thinks you cheated or purpose or accident, you’re done.  The clock stops and you have to start over.

Some thing like:  “v/me looks at the wall”.  That typo costs you dearly.  Oh, and it knows if you’re cheating, “/me thinks about leaving.”  Pop - that’s cheating.  Give that bitch a spanking!

I’ve been staying out of this mess with Linden Lab’s trademark shenanigans, mostly because there’s nothing to gain really.  They have a lawyer or probably lawyers on retainer and they have to do something.  So, modifying the usage of their name and trademarks is something for the lawyers to do.   From LL’s standpoint, it might be worth something in the future, so it’s worth protecting.

I’m not a lawyer, but I think most of the bloggers are pretty immune to this whole mess as they probably fall under the category of reporters.  You don’t see little TM’s and disclaimers on CNN’s webpages when they report on other companies, do you?

On the flip side, they’re probably fully within their rights to protect their name from being used by other companies for financial gain.  This makes sense.  If you were running a company, you’d want the same protection.  So companies like SLExchange might find themselves in trouble.  Trademarks are to prevent consume confusion, and that makes sense.  Is SLExchange owned or run by Linden Labs?  No.  Same thing with the whole SLart silliness.

That’s probably why Onrez has the name it does, it doesn’t infringe.  This does bring up an interesting point that I hadn’t considered when I started this blog.  I might have a personal problem with my name.  Now, Veyron is a French surname, and I suppose I could one could argue it’s generic.  But it is probably inevitable a bored VW lawyer is going to nail me.  If not today, eventually.  It’s like gravity.  I suppose other Avatars might have similar problems, who knows.

It’s also interesting to note that lawyers by their nature are bullies.  They usually try to avoid court, since once you land in court everything is in play.  There is no defined outcome.  Take for example this reply to Monster Cable’s threats to a smaller company.  My guess is Monster will go away.  They want an easy victim, not one that will fight.

What does surprise me is that Linden Labs continues to make public relations faux pas.  Pretty much with every plan, statement or policy change for the last year they have managed to not only get both feet in their mouth but generally blow one foot off just before insertion.

I have noticed a trend though.  Linden Lab’s has been very consistent.  Take for example the number of “issues” in the last month.  What it seems to me is that the grid starts to really fall apart at high concurrency loads.  What happened to the “contingency” plans from last year?  Restricting uses to the true addicts.  :)  I can’t ever recall it happening.  Ah, but then it would be inconsistent if we followed through on something.  Which I guess is where the trademark policy will go.

Oh well.

I finished reading Eudeamon yesterday… It was a great read. It was really quite enjoyable. It reminded me of a Twilight Zone episode (or was it Outer Limits) where a person was condemned to be invisible for a year as punishment. It only involved putting a raised symbol on his forehead. From that point on all of society ignored him. Eudeamon has more of a techno-sci-fi piece to it that that episode which was much more cruel actually. Anyhow if you get some time, give the story a try - you’ll probably liked it.

To go hand and hand with the Eudeamon story, I also watched Secretary. It is quite good and it involves BSDM, but not really any sex (okay there’s a few very brief scenes). Instead of trying to be cured of her submissiveness and his dominance, they embrace it and in the end it makes them both happy.

What I found really amusing was the times the Secretary intentionally tries to get “punished”. Gee, it was deja vu all over again….

So I was able to upgrade site here with the latest and greatest Wordpress, 2.5. I was able to do it pretty painlessly with the Instant Upgrade plugin. Except for the first time it did not seem to work, and I had to restore some of the files from backup.

Anyhow, contact me if something looks broken….

On another matter, I’m pondering what to do with my hosting provider. I’m not terribly ecstatic with their uptime or speed. I’ve looked at colocating a server, changing providers to someone like Dreamhost, and even running a virtual machine with Amazon EC2 service. None of which I’m happy with. I moved off blogger to get more control, so I think Wordpress.com is out.

Anyone have any thoughts?
