On the Pull….

Amanda Shinji

It’s interesting how American English and British English are different. As Churchill once said, "Two nations separated by a common language." Amanda used an interesting term on Pownce today, and I actually had to look it up… "On the pull". An interesting idiom. I found this pretty amusing site, the English-to-American Dictionary.

pull v. The art of distracting the opposite sex. Pulling is conceptually very similar to hooking up. To be on the pull is a less proactive version of sharking. Single males and females are almost all on the pull but will deny it fervently and pretend to be terribly surprised when eventually it pays off.

I wonder if they have a Second Life to First Life Dictionary anywhere…

    Hehe, I’ve had to explain this one a few times.

  2. Amanda says:

    Hehe, sorry for the confusion hun. I’m a strange ‘hybrid’ of sorts, with some of my SecondLanguage being very much American, especially automotive terms due to my fascination with cars and doing the work that I do in SL, but the rest of me remains firmly planted on this little island…

    On the contrary, I found the dictionary quite amusing. Slang terms from each side are most amusing. Must really confuse the heck out of those Continentals….

  4. Amanda says:

    Hehe, you ought to hear some of the slang terms for monetary values then…

    Monkey
    Pony
    Score
    Commodore
    Lady

    See if you can work them out or find out what they are… Challenge Veyron has begun ;)

  5. Veyron says:

    Pony = 25 pounds
    Monkey = 500 pounds
    Score = 20 pounds
    Commodore = 15 pounds
    Lady = 5 pounds

    Ahhh… the wonders of Google…. ;)

  6. Amanda says:

    I didn’t expect you to get ‘Lady’ or ‘Commodore’… Cheaterz ;)
