Push to Expand SL Group Limit
Okay, let’s give a try to up the limit on the number of Second Life groups you can have. Everyone knows how annoying it is. Fellow bloggers. Repost a similar blog posting to this. Just how hard can this be to make the number larger? It was made larger a while back and the Earth did continue to revolve around the Sun. Here’s the Jira URL for it. Go there, login with your Second Life account. Vote for it. You’re done. You’ve done your good deed for the day.
Right now there are 386 votes for it. If we can do what we have done with some of the meme games let’s try to get it to 500 or 1000.

25 groups are taken up with administrivia. Leaving only 10 for groups that are for networking and interests. Throw in the must belong to professional gorups, and many of us have… two or three slots to play with. There are petitions, and there isVeryon’s campaign to push a JIRA.

Sometimes you can find a whole family on the grid, and when they are close, they regularly meet inworld. Now I was asked to take some pictures of the brother, together with his friend online, and his family. it indeed is annoying I can’t get more then 25 groups. I keep several alt-accounts to keep me up to date…….

It is indeed annoying and this is recognised by Lindens left, right and centre.
However, the group limit is actually a deeper problem than might be imagined, as far as I am aware. It is not just a question of changing a flag. Group membership has all sorts of further effects. Thus I would not expect any simple response here - asking for increased group membership has been going back years now.
A more practical endeavour would be to eliminate the need to join groups that are simply there for chat or update messages.

It is more than just a number of groups… I did my voting not because I believe it is going to pass (it is not actually a good proposal) but to raise the number of votes and put a red flashing light over the problem. I started writing about groups problem but last days I was too lazy to finish it. I will, promise.

frankly another issue has been weighing more heavily on my mind - the “25 Groups” limitation. The “25 Groups” problem has been swirling about the grid for many months, and most recently gained more press appeal once it was adopted by vocal bloggers (1) (2) (3) in an attempt to get people to vote on the JIRA entry. I agree wholeheartedly with Ordinal Malaprop’s perspectives on this matter and *if* I could log in to Jira right now, I’d quote from some of the dialog there.

[...] It seems I’m not the only one frustrated with this, and in addition to a Jira issue already having achieved (at this time) 789 votes, there are numerous blog posts by successful in-world businesses and even individuals railing against the group limit and pleading with LL to address the issue, even to the point of starting one petition after another.
